Floorings and Coatings
Indoor air quality and healthy habitation are influenced by individual habit but also by the emission behavior of construction materials. Therefore the avoidance of emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOC) is important, especially when the indoor air exchange rate is dropping because of insulation in order to raise buildings’ energy efficiency. As a supplier of construction materials Sika took responsibility for development of a range of Sikafloor coatings with very low VOC emission. These products (SR 266 CR) fulfill stringent legal requirements as the German AgBB evaluation scheme for example and are approved for indoor application.

Cleanroom Suitable Solutions
Increasing requirements regarding VOC emission and particle emission are found in many sectors of industry. Today high-tech industries as semiconductor and optoelectronics manufacturing have certainly the most stringent demands on cleanliness. Cleanroom suitable, ultra low emitting Sikafloor products (SR 269 CR) contribute to higher process reliability and effectiveness. These floorings systems are also available with antistatic or dissipative properties. The qualification and classification into ISO-classes is ensured by our external partner Fraunhofer IPA.

Car Parking Decks
Requirements for floor coatings designed for car parking decks are rather high, especially the crack bridging property, chemical resistance and not least the abrasion resistance. Essential for the durability of a coating setup are the properties at the job site. Low temperature combined with high humidity is usual for car parks, first of all in basements. As the typical wearing layer is based on polyurethanes, high humidity results in foam formation. Foam formation in the wearing layer reduces the mechanical resistance and therewith the durability of the complete setup.

Sika Test for Car Park Coatings
To test the durability of coatings for car parking decks, Sika developed a special testing device for car park coatings. Therefore a car wheel is turned on a spot to simulate the typical forces cars apply onto the track. The Sika test for car park coatings provides the investigation of different materials, setups and the influence of the climatic conditions during the application.

New Material for Application at High Humidity
Combining the knowledge of the customers needs with the chemical possibilities and a valid testing procedure Sika was able to introduce a new material, SR 375, into the market, which fulfils the high expectations to a durable coating setup for car parking decks even if applied at high humidity.

Completion of Sikafloor Range
The Sikafloor range was then completed by the new products Sikafloor 161, Sikafloor 263 SL and Sikafloor 264 for the industrial sector. Sikafloor 161 is a new primer with excellent workability. Sikafloor 263 SL is a coloured self levelling all purpose epoxy resin with improved deaeration properties. It can be highly filled with sand and is therefore a very economic coating for high quality coatings. Sikafloor 264 is a coloured epoxy resin but it is designed as a sealer. For this it has a higher pigment load and a very good hiding power.
