Sika professes its obligation to the principles of sustainable development.

Sika solutions help to reduce CO₂ emissions in the building and construction sector, and decrease water consumption in the manufacturing of concrete . Within the scope of its 100-year jubilee, Sika is supporting a new professorship from the strategic initiative Sustainable Construction of ETH Zurich. With this promotion Sika continues the successful and multilateral partnership with the ETH Zurich in the fields of chemistry, building materials and construction.

ETH Zurich Initiative Sustainable Construction

The strategic initiative Sustainable Construction is a current project of the ETH Zurich. The construction industry employs 111 million people or 1.6% of the global population. The construction and building operations uses about 40% of the global energy and is responsible for approximately 40% of the CO₂ emissions. Furthermore, it uses a large amount of raw material, water and land. Therefore, this industry holds a large potential for sustainable development.

Promoting young professionals

The initiative Sustainable Construction aims to connecting knowledge and competencies from different fields and to promoting young professionals to reinforce innovation. Therefore, the ETH Zurich is setting up several new professorships in the departments of Civil, Environmental & Geomatic Enigneering, Architecture and Material Science).

Sika promotes the new professorship Soft Materials. It is of Sika’s concern to use materials which are locally available and recyclable with focus on quality and durability.

The promotion of the strategic initiative Sustainable Construction should among others lead to new insights for future building strategies and should foster innovation through interdisciplinary research and teaching projects. Furthermore, it is Sika’s objective to train / educate competent young professionals

ETH Zurich Foundation

The ETH Zurich Foundation is an independent and non-profit institution with the aim to promote research and education at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH). For this purpose, the foundation seeks partners and donors who wish to support ETH Zurich in strategic key areas.

The work of the foundation is based on strategic guidelines set by ETH Zurich, directed to the needs of business and society as well as specific initiatives. Companies, organizations and individuals can strengthen the impact of their contribution by pooling with other partners and thus accelerate innovation and talents with maximum effect.

With the donation by Sika, various projects, like the new Olympia bobsled CITIUS or the Monte Rosa Hut, were successfully implemented.
