The rapid economic climb of developing nations demands enormous investments in energy, transportation, water and healthcare. At the same time, existing infrastructure in developed countries must also be modernized.
In 2008 for the first time ever, over half of the world's population lived in cities that together cover just 2% of the world's surface area. Although cities cover only 2% of our planet's surface, they consume 75% of our available energy and emit around 80% of all greenhouse gases.
