Flexible PV (Photovoltaic) or Solar Cell Systems
Single ply membrane sheets can be used as a carrier (master membrane) for the lamination of flexible solar cells.
Such membrane sheets with integrated solar cells are welded onto an existing waterproofing layer.
As solar modules are positioned directly on the waterproofing layer it is very important to provide a minimum slope of 3 % on the waterproofing surface to avoid any standing water.
Solyndra Solar Systems
White coloured single ply or liquid applied membranes with high reflectivity can be used as a substrate for the placement of bi-facial solar systems (e.g. Solyndra).
Due to the possibility of air/wind flow through the structure of these innovative solar systems there is no need for additional fastening to the structural deck or the membranes.
High reflectivity and the light colours of Sika roofing membranes allow to transfer high portions of sunlight from the waterproofing layer back to parts of the solar system which are not directly exposed to the sun.
Rigid Solar Cell Systems
Arrays of rigid solar modules can also be installed on top of Sika single ply roofing membranes. They are placed directly onto the waterproofing layer via metal profiles which are fastened to the membrane by welded strips / patches.
