The Thiess John Holland Joint Venture has been appointed as the principal contractor to deliver the $4.8billion Airport Link, Northern Busway (Windsor to Kedron) and Airport Roundabout Upgrade – Australia’s largest road infrastructure project which is scheduled for completion in 2012. The project is contracted as a PPP project (Private Public Partnership) including design, built, operation and maintenance service, under a fixed-price contract for an initial five-year period following the tunnel opening.

New 10 km stretch of the motorway D47 was opened to traffic on 6th May 2008. This new stretch contains the Klimkovice tunnel, which is one of the most significant civil engineering structures on this motorway. The tunnel itself is 1.080 m long. It was founded in the cadastral area of the town of Klimkovice near the third largest city of Ostrava, about 1 km far from the complex of the Klimkovice sanatorium.

The Coatzacoalcos River Tunnel is a 1.6 km long tunnel connecting the Petrochemical Industrial Zone of “Villa Allende” with the port of Coatzacoalcos, located at the Gulf of Mexico. This engineering project is without precedent in Mexico and throughout Latin America and it has a projected duration from 2007 until spring 2010.

The 4.4 km long Uetliberg Tunnel, connecting the Birmensdorf bypass (N20.1.4) in the west with the existing Zurich-Chur highway (A3 motorway) in the east, is the key structure of the new Zurich western bypass. The project consists of two parallel tubes, each about 4.4 km long, which both increase in slope by approx. 1.6 % between the east and the west portals. Stations with equipment and installation rooms will be built at both the west and east portals. The underground central ventilation station is located in the Reppisch Valley (Landikon).

The 2.966 m, twin-tube Grouft Road Tunnel is the longest structure on the Route du Nord, which links the northern economic regions of the Grand Duchy of Luxemburg with the capital. The “Route d’Echternach-Contournement Mersch” section is 14.7 km long, with 7.5 km of the road underground through 3 tunnels, and a further 1.4 km over bridges. The tunnel sections include the 2.695 m long Gousselerbierg tunnel, the Grouft tunnel and the 1.850 m long Stafelter tunnel.

Der Islisbergtunnel ist Bestandteil der N4 durch das Knonaueramt. Der Tunnel ist 4.95 km lang und besteht aus zwei Röhren. Zusammen mit der Westumfahrung Zürich, der A1 (Zürich-Bern) und der A3 (Zürich-Chur) entlastet die N4 Knonaueramt (Zürich-Zentralschweiz) mehrere Agglomerationsgemeinden vom Pendlerverkehr und die Stadt Zürich vom Transitverkehr.

With 12 km in distance (part 9 km of tunnel), KPE will be the longest underground expressway in South East Asia when completed.

The Flüelen bypass road was opened to traffic in 2005. According to the latest EU safety instructions every new road tunnel must in future be equipped with an escape gallery. This is the reason why construction work for the safety gallery was started in October 2005, after the official inauguration of the bypass.

It is summed up the south access to Valparaíso, union of both fronts of excavation of the Tunnel T1, a super structures that connects directly the Road La Pólvora with the port of Valparaíso. This is a very excellent landmark from the point of view of the engineering, being a work of great complexity.
