Integration is the key feature of the new company headquarters of the Dutch Bank ING. Art, natural materials, plants and light are incorporated into an energy-efficient building. During construction of this building, new ground was broken in many different areas, from sophisticated dimensioning up to the development of an innovative system for fastening the glass skin onto the already finished steel construction. A part of this pioneering work was distinguished by the Dutch Glass association with the "Glass Award 2002" which went to the ING Bank supervisory board.
Not only the reptilian shape of the building is unusual. The interior design is also different in that it changes with each garden, patio and atrium. The clarity of the concept is reflected in the use of minimal materials and design classics in the interior of the building.
The 10.000 qm glass skin held by polished stainless steel fastenings surrounds the stild-mounted structure like a second skin. In the northern facade all glass elements have a four-sided weatherseal. This means that building is completely closed in order to seal out the noise and smells of th adjacent highway. Ventilation of the building is carried out at the east and south facades, both of which are also sealed. On every floor, fresh air is sucked in using movable glass fins and then distributed over the entire facade. In this way the north side is ventilated automatically by pressure and counter-pressure at 30.000 qm per hour - at full capacity. The temperature in each office can also be controlled individually. The 50-cm-deep, horizontally mounted fins at floor level additionally prevent transmission of noise between offices.
