Auroville is an experiment. On a 25'000 km2 area near the Gulf of Bengal in southern India, a futuristic city has been steadily growing since the end of the sixties. Intended for 50'000 inhabitants, this city is deeply rooted in teh philosophy of Sri Aurobindo and was built in accordance with the ideas of Mira Alfassa. European culture and Indian spiriturality meet in the form of the Matrimandir at the city's center - the world's biggest completely gilded building.
