Due to its height and shimmering silhouette, Zorlu's corporate headquarters dominate the Büyükcekmece district, which though technically part of Istanbul, lies fome 31 miles away from the historic downtown area. The facade is designed to reflect light in a variety of colors, depending on its direction and angle of incidence, creating a spectacular interplay of transparency, reflections and shadows.
The asymmetric design and convex facade give the impression of a living edifice, particularly on a cloudy day. A shade of blue was chosen for the laminated glass (6ESG/12/9VSG, Luxguard CR14).
The four-sided structural glazing facade extends over 6'500 m2. As the area in and around Istanbul is prone to earthquakes, structural glazing offers a major benefit. Being elastically bonded to the substrate, it often suffers less from small to medium-scaled earthquakes than conventional facade technologies.
As the only skyscraper in the neighborhood, the 32-storey office complex towers high above the surrounding buildings and factories, making it virtually a local landmark.
