Sika products were used for the construction of a new multi-purpose building according to the challenging German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) green building requirements.
New Sustainably Built Office Building
The building of the Sika Training Center, Sturrgart, Germany, has a low operational energy use of 105 kWh/m2 per annum, which is 23% less than required by the German regulations. Together with other partners, Sika was involved in the initial development of a DGNB guideline assisting architects, planners, contractors and owners in the selection and documentation of construction products for DGNB projects.
The criteria for certification DGNB give priority to environmental, economic, socio-cultural and functional aspects of a building and its technical quality - considered over its entire life cycle, from planning to the end of its useful life. The responsible use of natural resources and the reduction of CO2 emissions are in the foreground.

From basement to roof
The building has a total area of almost 1,800 square meters and was largely equipped with the sustainable products of Sika Germany: Under the claim "Sustainability from basement to roof" structure, roof and window seals and concrete admixtures as well as the entire floor derive from own product range. A model of the building indicates the Sika products which were used and the areas of the building where they were used.
Art and architecture
The new administration building is decorated on each floor with art works of artist Betty Beier: There are plastic impressions of landscapes in northern Germany, China and Iceland, which are mostly threatened by construction projects such as lignite mining, dams and climate change.
