Creating a pleasant atmosphere for the community

Under the motto "Who designs the most beautiful gingerbread house", 20 colleagues from Sika Automotive Hamburg GmbH volunteered in 3 teams at the end of November in the Ronald McDonalds house.

The Ronald McDonald House was opened on August 16, 1997 as a temporary home for families whose seriously ill children are being treated at the University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf. It accommodates around 180 families every year.

After a long day at the clinic, parents can retreat there. It is a place of relaxation, rest and exchange with other residents of the house. Up to 13 families can find a
temporary home in the spacious apartments of the family home. Families can leave everyday hospital life behind for a while here. There is also the opportunity to stock up on groceries and everyday necessities in the nearby shops or at the market!

The Ronald McDonald Houses are operated by the Ronald McDonald Children's Aid Foundation and thus lay the foundation for the construction of the houses. The houses finance themselves.

Numerous volunteers are involved in the Ronald McDonald House Hamburg-Eppendorf and support the families of seriously ill children. To enable the families to have a rest and to contribute to a positive atmosphere, Sika teams from Hamburg spent 3 afternoons crafting together for the families by assembling and decorating beautiful gingerbread houses.

"Volunteering allows you to connect to the local community and make it a better place. The time spent in the Ronald McDonalds house did give us the opportunity to both help other people and experience quality time as a team leaving behind the day-to-day routine of work. We all went home with a good feeling." Doreen Janke, Head Research & Development Global Business Europe, Sika Automotive Hamburg GmbH
