Sika supports young children to improve their living conditions

Systematic approach to support local communities

Sika Ecuador is cooperation with the Fundación Alianza Suiza and engaging in this social responsibility initiative developed by six Swiss multinationals, ABB, Holcim, Nestlé, Novartis, Roche and Sika.

Alianza Suiza is endorsed by the Swiss Embassy in Ecuador. Since 2009, this group of companies has joined efforts, initially in favor of education in Ecuador and currently with the purpose of building sustainable communities, in which there is a balance between social, economic and environmental topics.

So far, more than 250 children have received support through tutorials to improve their performance at school, and 40 teenagers were trained for a “21 Century” skills program. The support is encompassing trainings for adults to improve construction-related  skills and a health and nutrition program for children between 0 and 3 years.

Sika Ecuador has been particularly involved in organizing teams of volunteers who go to communities and give training on construction technics (silicone seal, waterproofing, painting and coatings, etc.). The acquired skills are very useful to the beneficiaries, given that the majority of them work half time on construction sites.Another main subject of the project is the creation of a recycling system in order to contribute to green public spaces.

Furthermore, one of the biggest issues in Ecuador is the chronic malnutrition of children. Sika Ecuador participated at a project to fight this issue.
