Project Description

Refurbishment and modernization was scheduled for the Dorothea-Schlözer school that was originally founded in 1882. Today it has re-opened as the most modern and professional school in the Schleswig-Holstein region of Germany.

Project Requirements

The principals were looking for a colorful, hard-wearing, easy-clean and low maintenance flooring system, with proven low voc emission values, that was particularly suitable for use in the indoor school environment, with young people in close contact.

Sika Solutions

The new Sika® ComfortFloor Decorative System was selected as ideal for the project because of its very low voc emissions, almost unlimited colours and a smooth, matt, easily cleaned surface.

After vacuum blast cleaning, the concrete substrate was primed with Sikafloor®-161, a solvent free, epoxy primer. An elastic, resilient layer was then applied using Sikafloor®-300 N, a low VOC polyurethane based material. Finally Sikafloor®-304 W, a very low VOC, polyurethane based, decorative top coat was applied to the architects selected colours and design, to produce the very smooth, matt surface.
