Johanna Jimenez takes us on her inspiring journey of growth and new beginnings through Sika’s 'Women in Sales' program from Colombia to Guatemala...

My name is Johanna, and I’m currently living and working in Guatemala City. I relocated here about a year and a half ago after spending time with Sika in Ecuador as part of the Women in Sales program, designed to support women in Sika Latin America to develop their skills in sales. I’m originally from Colombia, and I had no idea just how much this move would shape me both personally and professionally.

What drove me to take this step? A strong desire to keep learning and evolving. As a civil engineer, I wanted to better understand how the construction industry works across different countries and markets, especially in a region as diverse as Latin America. I saw this opportunity not only as a way to expand my technical knowledge but also to grow my commercial skills and it has definitely delivered on both.Relocating came with its challenges, of course. Starting over in a new environment takes courage. I had to adapt quickly, find my footing, and build a new network from the ground up. But it’s precisely through those challenges that I’ve grown. I’ve learned to lead with more confidence, to think more strategically, and to take ownership of my development in a completely new way.

One of the most meaningful aspects of this experience has been Sika’s deep commitment to sustainability. This has always been an area that matters to me, and I’ve been fortunate to contribute to projects where sustainable practices are at the core. I’ve learned a great deal and continue to be inspired by how seriously Sika takes its responsibility toward the environment and the future of construction.

For me, this international assignment has been much more than just a professional milestone - it’s been a turning point. It has broadened my perspective, challenged me to grow in ways I hadn’t expected, and made me feel truly connected to Sika’s global vision. Today, I feel not only more capable but also more motivated than ever to keep moving forward.

Naturally, there are moments when I miss home, especially my family in Colombia. But Guatemala has welcomed me warmly. The kindness of the people and the pleasant climate have helped me feel right at home.
If you’re considering an international move but aren’t quite sure yet, all I can say is: Do it if the opportunity presents itself. You’ll gain valuable professional and personal experience, supported by a company that provides an environment that supports growth and personal development.

If I had to sum it up, I’d say this journey has been all about:

Growth. Courage. New Experiences.
