The European Patent Office (EPO) recently unveiled its 2023 Patent Index, showing a remarkable milestone with 199,275 European patent applications filed last year.

Swiss applicants played a significant role in this achievement, accounting for 4.7% of these applications and placing Switzerland at the top of the list for patent applications filed with the EPO per million inhabitants (1,085.31). (Source: Patent Index 2023 | Epo.org)

 

Furthermore, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) released the Global Innovation Index (GII) 2023 in September, where Switzerland was named the leading country in innovation for the 13th year running. Sika continues to be a cornerstone of Swiss innovative prowess, consistently ranking among the top 10 Swiss applicants at the EPO. This enduring commitment to innovation underscores Sika's significant contribution to Switzerland's position on the global stage.

In 2023, Sika employees have reported a total of 188 new inventions (2022: 168) resulting in 108 first filings (2022: 104). By the end of 2023, Sika’s patent portfolio included 1,600 unique patent families with 5,680 single national patents.

Over the past six years, Sika has consistently ranked among the top 10 Swiss companies that filed patents with the EPO.
