Giving Day 2024 - Chile

Supporting Vulnerable Children and their Families

In an unprecedented display of unity and community engagement, Sika teams across Latin America celebrated its first annual "Giving Day", a significant initiative that brought together employees from six countries for a noble cause. The countries involved Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Peru, Uruguay, and Paraguay - collectively supported the esteemed non-profit organization, Children’s Villages SOS (CVSOS), known for its commitment to aiding vulnerable children and their families.

The initiative was remarkable not only for its scale but also for the tangible outcomes it achieved. A collective effort resulted in an impressive 400 additional hours of volunteer work in just one day, mobilizing 70 volunteers across the participating countries. These volunteers engaged in a range of activities, from painting walls and refurbishing spaces to cleaning up community areas, all facilitated by the use of Sika products.

At the heart of this initiative is Sika's core value of volunteerism, underpinned by the company's strategic vision for 2028. This vision places a strong emphasis on the People & Culture pillar, reflecting Sika's belief in the power of its employees to make a difference through volunteer work. The initiative is part of a broader ambition to increase volunteer hours, highlighting the company's commitment to continuous improvement and community engagement.

"Community work ticks a lot of boxes. It reinforces our culture, increases employee engagement, supports our sustainability efforts, and allows us to integrate new employees coming from acquisitions, making them feel welcome. When doing community work, we’re all Sika!" Carolina Reyes, HR Manager LATAM South, Sika

The genesis of "Giving Day LATAM South 2024" can be traced back to three key inspirations. The success of Sika Day 2023 in fostering community engagement, a casual suggestion by Vanesa Larco, General Manager of Sika Peru, and the existing framework of community engagement facilitated by Sika Peru and Sika Argentina. These elements combined to create a solid foundation for the project, which was then meticulously planned and executed with the collaboration of Alejandra Rizzoli, CSR manager of Sika Argentina.

"Through volunteering, Sika is committed to generating opportunities that positively impact less fortunate communities. In March 2024, we were able to improve the conditions of vulnerable children. Everybody’s enthusiasm was fundamental and I’m truly grateful for everyone’s generosity." Daniel Monteiro, Area Manager LATAM South, Sika

The "Giving Day" initiative stands as a testament to the power of collective action and the impact that corporations can have on the communities they serve. It marks a significant step forward in Sika's journey towards more integrated and impactful community engagement, setting a precedent for future initiatives.
