At Sika Vietnam, on the Bac Ninh site, rainwater is becoming a valuable resource. By capturing and reusing water collected from facility rooftops, the site is reducing its reliance on municipal water supplies while advancing sustainability and resource-efficiency goals.

A Simple and Effective Water Reuse Solution

Sika Viewtnam identified a significant opportunity to reduce freshwater consumption at the Bac Ninh site by collecting and reusing rainwater for internal operations. In Vietnam, the cost of municipal water extends beyond water consumption itself, as wastewater charges are also linked to the volume of water purchased. By harvesting rainwater, the site can reduce both water procurement and associated wastewatercosts while supporting more sustainable operations.

Capturing Rainwater for Everyday Operations

The project utilizes a pump system to collect rainwater from rooftop drainage points and transfer it to a dedicated storage tank. The stored water is then supplied for internal applications, providing an alternative water source that helps conserve municipal water resources.

The initiative is being implemented in phases:

  • Phase 1: Water reuse for gardening and wastewater treatment operations
  • Phase 2: Expansion to production and domestic applications

Building Resilience Through Sustainable Infrastructure

The project began in early 2025 but was temporarily paused due to facility building upgrades. Following completion of the upgrades, the initiative was reactivated and relaunched in the third quarter of 2026, enabling the site to continue its journey toward more sustainable water management.

Reducing Freshwater Demand

By harvesting and reusing rainwater, Sika Vietnam expects to significantly reduce its dependence on municipal water supplies. The project has the potential to save approximately 1,200 m³ of water annually, contributing to greater resource efficiency and supporting the company's long-term sustainability ambitions.

As the system expands into production and domestic uses, the site anticipates even greater environmental and operational benefits in the years ahead.
