Sika continues to be a cornerstone of Switzerland’s innovation ecosystem, once again ranking among the top 10 Swiss patent applicants at the European Patent Office (EPO) in 2025. This consistent performance highlights Sika’s long-term commitment to research, development, and technology leadership.

 In 2025, Sika reported 234 new inventions (2024: 264), resulting in 121 initial patent applications (2024: 125). By the end of 2025, Sika’s intellectual property portfolio comprised 1,572 active patent families, encompassing a total of 5,430 individual national patents worldwide (2024: 5,772).

Over the past eight consecutive years, Sika has consistently ranked among the top 10 Swiss companies filing patent applications with the EPO, a clear demonstration of the company’s sustained innovation drive and its contribution to strengthening Switzerland’s global leadership in innovation.

The European Patent Office (EPO) received 201,974 patent applications in 2025, marking a 1.4% increase compared with 2024 and surpassing the 200,000 mark for the first time. With 9,914 patent applications, Switzerland once again ranked number one worldwide in patent filings per million inhabitants, underscoringits exceptional innovation strength (source: EPO Technology Dashboard 2025).

This leading position is further reflected in the Global Innovation Index (GII) 2025, published by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). The top 10 countries in the 2025 ranking are Switzerland, Sweden, the United States, South Korea, Singapore, the United Kingdom, Finland, the Netherlands, Denmark, and China — with Switzerland maintaining its position at the very top.
