Youth Shelter Volunteering to Build a Safe Outdoor Environment
The goal of the Sika team in Canada was to rise the quality of life and to provide, to the kids and the educators that are living in the shelter, a safe and fun outdoor environment for them to enjoy the summer, during the pandemic. 25 Sika employees spent in total 400 hours processing construction works.
The team ...
- redid the landscaping in the backyard,
- refurbished the concrete structures around the house (basement concrete stairs, main entrance concrete stairs) and
- revamped the shed with the provision of a new roof, new sidings, new door, new configuration inside the shed with addition of shelves.
Another priority has been the modernization of the exterior lighting, the creation of a gardening area, an outdoor cinema (with a new projector and a projector screen), a picnic area, and a reading space under a new pergola.
After 2 days of work everything was assembled and ready to be used by the children. Toys (soccer and hockey equipment, etc) and a new BBQ were handed over to the children and their educators.
Project partners were Lefebvre and Benoit, Laval – Québec, who provided and delivered the construction wood for the project, and Béton Concept, Montreal, who were in charge of the equipment and the workforce for the surface preparation of the concrete structures.
Volunteering to improve the quality of live of children and young people is a great team building experience. " Richard Aubertin
