Automated Product Carbon Footprint Calculation at Scale
Accelerate your path to climate goals with reliable, product-level carbon data — delivered fast.
As sustainability expectations rise across the construction and manufacturing industries, transparent carbon reporting is no longer a nice-to-have, it's essential. The Sika® Carbon Compass is an externally certified automated Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) platform that delivers greenhouse gas emissions data across Sika's product portfolio, helping customers make informed, climate-conscious decisions.
What Is the Sika® Carbon Compass?
The Sika® Carbon Compass is an automated, internally operated platform for calculating cradle-to-gate Product Carbon Footprints (PCF) for Sika products - covering upstream supply chain emissions, manufacturing emissions, raw materials, packaging, and transport. The Sika® Carbon Compass can quantify the climate impact for a significant share of Sika’s product portfolio*. The calculation methodology has been independently verified by TÜV Rheinland, Germany, in line with internationally recognized standards.
*The data pool used for carbon footprint calculations is continuously being improved. This ongoing enhancement will enable automated emissions calculations in the future, even for products thatcurrently lack sufficiently qualified data.
- Compliance with internationally recognized standards such as the TfS PCF Guideline, the Catena-X PCF Rulebook, and ISO 14067.
- Customer-ready PCF info sheets, generated quickly and on demand. Annual data updates reflecting latest developments.
- Data quality checks for ensuring sound information .
- Seamless data export for regulatory compliance or reporting needs.
The Life Cycle Assessment methodology used in the Sika® Carbon Compass is the TfS PCF Guideline, the Catena-X Product Carbon Footprint Rulebook and ISO 14067, which are based on ISO 14040 and ISO 14044 standards.
- Declared unit
Sika provides PCFs for 1kg of packed Sika product, at the Sika factory gate.
- System boundary
Raw material production, transportation to Sika gate, and the production process at Sika including waste processing are included in the PCFs provided by Sika. This is known as a cradle-to-gate scope.
- Assumptions
The underlying LCA within the Sika® Carbon Compass is an attributional LCA.
- Cut-off
All inputs and outputs relevant to the manufacturing of Sika products were considered in the methodology. A maximum of 3% of raw materials per mass was excluded to close data gaps.
- Allocation method of foreground system
Whenever allocation cannot be avoided, mass allocation is used in the Sika® Carbon Compass. The allocation rules in compliance with the TfS Guideline are followed.
- Life Cycle Impact Assessment Method
The impact assessment method IPCC AR6 is used to calculate the Global Warming Potential (GWP) results within 100 years within the Sika® Carbon Compass.
Why It Matters
Get verifiable PCF data in days—not months. What once required manual
lifecycle analysis by experts is now a streamlined, automated process.
The Sika® Carbon Compass enables accurate Scope 3 emissions reporting by
providing specific carbon data for purchased products, helping customers meet
climate disclosure and procurement requirements.
From the EU’s Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) to evolving Construction Product Regulation (CPR) standards, Sika® Carbon Compass helps to stay compliant and ahead of regulatory curves.
Use trusted carbon data to select lower-emission alternatives and reduce the embedded carbon footprint in your projects. Besides an active engagement with our suppliers, Sika, as a member of the Together for Sustainability initiative, contributed to the development of a chemical industry guideline on product carbon footprints and corporate accounting for scope 3 emissions. The TfS guideline harmonizes PCF calculation approachesacross the chemical industry.
The Sika® Carbon Compass reflects Sika’s long-term sustainability commitment and aligns with the Sika Strategy 2028. It brings carbon intelligence into every product decision, unlocking value across the supply chain and enabling customers to make meaningful progress toward climate targets.
FAQs about Product Carbon Footprints (PCFs) and the Sika® Carbon Compass
A Product Carbon Footprint measures the total greenhouse gas emissions associated with a product's lifecycle—typically from raw material extraction through production, known as cradle-to-gate. It’s a key metric for understanding and reducing a product's climate impact.
Product-level carbon data allows companies to make informed choices about materials and products. It supports low-carbon procurement, helps meet climate targets, and provides transparency to customers, regulators, and investors.
A company’s carbon footprint includes emissions from all operations, often grouped into Scope 1, 2, and 3 categories. A PCF zooms in on individual products, helping identify specific opportunities for emissions reduction across the value chain.
PCF calculations are becoming more harmonized thanks to guidelines like ISO 14067, the TfS PCF Guideline, and the Catena-X Rulebook. These frameworks ensure consistency in the calculation method, transparency, and harmonization of emissions data.
The Sika® Carbon Compass is a TÜV Rheinland-certified tool that calculates cradle-to-gate carbon footprints across Sika’s product portfolio. It pulls data from supply chain, production, packaging, and transport to deliver fast, reliable PCF values.
Customers get quick access to certified PCF Info Sheets for Sika products, enabling smarter material choices, better Scope 3 emissions reporting, and alignment with sustainable procurement goals.
Yes. It produces PCF data in line with ISO 14067, the TfS PCF Guideline, and the Catena-X Rulebook—ensuring credibility, harmonization, and readiness for regulatory requirements.
By delivering on-demand, export-ready carbon data, the Sika® Carbon Compass helps companies prepare for incoming regulations. It reduces the administrative burden while keeping you ahead of compliance needs.
