Argentina

A major multinational cement company, committed to environmental protection and carbon footprint reduction in its Argentine plants, decided to replace its standard cement additives with new high-performance formulations. The aim was to maximize the replacement of clinker with supplementary materials.

Project Requirements

Given the scale* and technological challenge of the project, the local Sika team collaborated closely with regional and global corporate teams to develop tailor-made cement additives for each specific case. As a result, new high-performance cement additives were successfully formulated, including a groundbreaking technology at Sika for high air content cement (SikaGrind®-723).
*treated volume of 3 million tons of cement per year with Sika additives

Sika Solutions

The client required high-performance cement additives to further increase clinker replacement in blended cements and maximize the carbon footprint reduction of their products.

  • The regional laboratory in LATAM was designated to test the new cement additives. Global and regional corporate staff were present to testing and optimizing the new developments.
  • For each cement type, one or two cement additive formulations were selected for laboratory testing and then scaled to industrial level.
  • The client chose the best performing cement additives based on strategic objectives and cost-benefit analysis.
